All-Season Containers
This
garden was one of my earliest designs, and is now
about 4 years old.
The plants are filling
in beautifully, and the spring colors of purples and
chartreuse really shimmer.
This spring, my client
asked me to design and fill a variety of existing
containers.
My goal was to unify
the variety of container colors and sizes, and use
plants that tie the containers to the existing
garden.
For the front, sunny
garden, I chose Phormium and ‘Wilma Goldcrest’
Cypress for vertical accents, with softer plants in
silver and burgundy to keep the palette muted and
elegant.
For the back, shady
garden, I chose Japanese maple and quiet evergreens
like Yew and Dwarf Hinoki Cypress, with chartreuse
groundcovers and grasses, for year-around beauty for
many seasons.
