Design Process

The design process is as follows.  Open communication is my priority through every step of this process.

  • Initial site visit:  I walk through the site with the homeowner.  I listen carefully, ask questions and take lots of notes.    Based on the size of the project, I create a written bid for design services, so the homeowner knows design costs in advance.

  • Site Plan:  Once the bid is accepted, I create a detailed site plan which includes measurements, notes about existing features and site conditions such as wind, sun and drainage.  I also take photographs for reference.

  • Conceptual Plans:  I find several solutions to meet the client’s criteria, and before going further, I meet with the client to get their feedback.

  • Final Plan:  This plan illustrates the solutions agreed upon with the client.  It shows the homeowner what the finished landscape will look like.  It includes existing features as well as additions such as new walls, patios and paths and  locations for planting beds.

  • Planting Plan and Construction Details:  The Planting Plan shows the client what plant goes where, how many to purchase, and their size.  If a wall, fence or trellis is built, I will provide Construction Details illustrating dimensions, style and placement.
